Sneak Preview Of Sonisphere Festival Stages At Knebworth
HERE'S the first look of the Sonisphere stages at Knebworth as the festival site prepares for this weekend's rock and metal extravaganza.
The Welwyn & Hatfield Times was given an exclusive peek behind the scenes of the first European touring festival this morning.
More than 40,000 rock fans are due to attend the event each day at the stately home.
The festival will be headlined on Saturday by American nu-metallers Linkin Park with metal legends Metallica closing the spectacular on Sunday night.
They will both play the Apollo main stage with the smaller Saturn stage running consecutively to avoid any overlap of the bands.
Topping the bill on the second stage are Bullet for My Valentine on Saturday and Avenged Sevenfold the following night.
Builders have been constructing the stages and campsite for the past fortnight, and an estimated 3,000 people will be working behind the scenes at Knebworth this weekend.
The first VIP campers will be on the Sonisphere festival site later this afternoon.
In other festival news, Bohemia tent bands The Ataris and Dirty Little Rabbits have both had to pull out of the event at short notice.
The Ataris can't make it having been diagnosed with suspected swine flu.
Dirty Little Rabbits, the side project of Slipknot's Shawn Crahan, have been forced to cancel their appearance due to exhaustion.
Shawn Craham said: "Nothing is worse than cancelling shows and we hate to do it, but after weeks of going all over the world and playing some of the biggest shows of my career, and now being in the home stretch on completing the Dirty Little Rabbits' debut album, I’m just mentally and physically drained."
